A former governor of Kaduna state, Alh. Balarabe Musa has claimed that the defection of Senate President Bukola Saraki has put APC in trouble.
The APC stalwart defected to the PDP in a highly expected move 2 days ago and it is widely believed that this plunges the APC in considerable trouble.
This is a point that Balarabe Musa hits on as he posited that Saraki’s defection could go some way in destabilizing the party.
Speaking on the issue on Wednesday, Musa stated that apart from just destabilizing the party, Saraki’s move could also seriously jeopardize President Buhari’s bid for reelection in 2019.
He said: “Saraki’s defection from APC was much expected and the party is in greater trouble now because his defection signifies the demise of the APC in spite of whoever remains now in the party.
“The consequences of this defection for the country and the party can only be imagined.
“Saraki’s defection will seriously affect Buhari, the party and the country in 2019, but if it can be managed, is also a different thing which we wait to see. This resignation is not something that can be dismissed except its that of an ordinary charlatan.”
Balarabe Musa was also instrumental in keeping another APC stalwart from leaving. He has been credited as one of the people who reasoned with Senator Shehu Sani not to leave the party.
On how he was able to convince Sani not to change parties, he said; “I told him not to decamp from the party if he is only going to the PDP
“I did not ask him not to leave the APC. I only said that he should not defect to the Peoples Democratic Party.”
The ruling party has suffered from a slew of defections over the past week with Saraki’s one of the most high profile ones of late.
