2 Min Read

A generator mechanic, Olatunji Opadiran, has been found dead in his room in the Ogba area of Lagos in an apparent suicide.

He reportedly hanged himself using a rope tied to the ceiling fan hook in his apartment.

Before committing the act, Opadiran was said to have hung out with friends who did not have an inkling of what he would do later.

His friends were said to have believed that Opadiran wanted to go home and sleep.

But on return to his room around 6pm, the deceased reportedly quietly committed the act without alerting neighbours.

The Punch quoted an anonymous neighbour of the deceased as saying, “He had earlier gone out with three of his friends and while coming back, he saw one of his friends and stayed with him for a while but all of a sudden, he said that he was hungry and his friend got him food to eat.

“After eating, he left for his house but the friend later went to look for him there, thinking he went to sleep like he used to do when he is tired.

“After knocking and calling out his name without any response, the door to his room was broken and he was found dead dangling from a rope.”

The source was further quoted as saying that the father of the deceased was prevented from seeing his corpse as necessary rites needed to be performed before he could be buried.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti was quoted as confirming the incident.

“We received the information around 6pm through a phone call that one Olatunji Opadiran commited suicide by hanging himself and the detectives swung into action,” he said.
