Manchester United manager. Jose Mourinho, has once again bemoaned the lack of depth in his squad claiming that star player Alexis Sanchez is unhappy with the players around him.
The Chilean cut a frustrated figure as Manchester United fell 4-1 to fierce rivals Liverpool in a friendly that Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, had claimed was anything but one.
Speaking to the press after the game, Mourinho expressed surprise that the press questioned Alexis’ mood on the pitch
“Do you want him (Alexis) to be very happy with the players he has around him? We are not playing here to improve the team or our dynamic or routines. We are playing here just to try to survive and to have some not-very-ugly results,”
“Alexis is the only attacking player we have. We don’t have wingers, we don’t have strikers. He’s the only one who is here, and the poor man is there trying his best, with the frustration of somebody that wants more.
“Against Milan he played fantastically well, and he did his best here. I don’t think you are right to say he is not happy. If he is not happy he is not ready to play two consecutive matches of 90 minutes and 85 minutes working the way he worked.
“For me, these guys are phenomenal in terms of attitude and respect for the club. Really pleased with them.”
United are without many of their star players with Rashford, Lingard and Lukaku still on holidays after the world cup.
Anthony Martial is also unavailable as he left the tour to be with his partner who just gave birth to a son.
Alexis is the only out and out senior attacker in the squad. Manchester United are hoping they can sign Willian from Chelsea and they have their eyes on some other attacking talent to make up the squad.
