Ozil out for four weeks with hamstring injury

Mesut Ozil

Mesut-Ozil-Arsenal

Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has been ruled out for four weeks, according to the BBC.

The Gunners ace actually sustained the blow in the second minute of the match, but played on until half time as he so desperately wanted to perform well both for Gunners fans and those in his home country of Germany.

Ozil posted on Facebook, “dear friends, now it’s clear: during the ‪#‎ucl‬ match against ‪#‎FCBayern‬ I suffered a muscle injury in the second minute. I tried to give my best and played until the end of the first half. rest assured that I’ll be back even stronger!”

The Gunners star joins Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey in being sidelined from the Gunners midfield, meaning new signing Kim Kallstrom may have to make a surprise debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby this weekend.

BBC journalist David Ornstein reported the estimated time of Mesut Ozil’s return to first team action to be around four weeks, after scan results came back today.

Ozil has come under considerable criticism in the press for his perceived laziness and apathetic attitude, but given his desire to remain on the pitch in Munich, perhaps his critics ought to reconsider.

Indeed, prior to the Gunners’ match against Bayern Munich he had run further than any other Arsenal player in the UEFA Champions League, and his record of five goals and ten assists in 30 appearances is hardly a poor return.

Ozil is no flop, but unfortunately it will be April before he is able to once again prove that to be the case.
