Dortmund Star, Pulisic, Banned from Winning Match Ball Over Alcohol Laws

2 Min Read

Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic was clearly the man of the match in the game against Liverpool in the International Champion’s Cup

But he was not given the match ball over American alcohol laws which stipulates that as a teenager he is unable to drink

Liverpool went down 3-1 to the German side thanks largely to Pulisic’s 2 second-half goals. He also set up Jacob Larsen to score the third goal.

Pulisic is 19 and unfortunately, the man of the match award was being sponsored by Heineken and American laws stipulate that Pulisic is unable to drink till he’s 21.

Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk was awarded the award instead, he’s 27 and he also put Liverpool ahead in the first half before Dortmund’s second-half resurgence

The American teenager is highly regarded as one of world football’s future stars and he showed why, winning a penalty in the 66th minute which he converted himself. He was also on hand to finish off a nasty counter attacking move in the 89th minute.

It was his shot that Karius parried into the path of Larsen who rifled a shot into the roof of the net giving Dortmund a 3-1 win over their Premier League opponents who are coached by a former Dortmund coach in Jurgen Klopp.

Pulisic’s involvement was hailed, but what also caught the eye was another Karius error as the German goalkeeper parried a ball that he really should have caught or at least pushed round the post for a corner, into the path of a Dortmund player.

He was criticized on Social media for his latest mistake, but he hit back taking to Instagram to post this message; “To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you,”

He also added:”Whatever it is that is happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray that it passes and good things come to you.”
