2019 Elections – Eight Commissioners Defect to PDP at Atiku’s Grand Rally

4 Min Read

With the 2019 elections drawing close, the season of defections and political alliances are upon us. Latest in line is the defection of eight prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa state.

The defectors include three members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly as well as some Local Government Chairmen in the state.

The defections were revealed by the National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Uche Secondus, during the grand rally held for one of the party’s presidential hopefuls, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The PDP Chairman revealed that Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa, Alhaji Umar Daware and several others had decamped to the PDP while he affirmed that the large turnout of party supporters at the rally signified that the PDP had become the party of choice for most Nigerians.

According to Chief Secondus, “in the coming weeks I know there will be a political tsunami that there will be no more APC in the country. You are aware that the APC has failed and we are preparing to provide security to the people as people are being killed throughout the country. The PDP is on a mission to amend the evils perpetrated by the APC.”

Chief Secondus further dismissed the insinuation that Nigerian youths were lazy, stressing that they are resourceful and energetic in all ramifications.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is also contesting for the 2019 elections under the banner of the PDP described Nigeria as a failed state under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to Atiku, “The APC government has failed to unite Nigerians as we are more divided than at any other time in the history of this country “. The former Vice President lamented that the ruling APC destroyed the economy of the country when they took over the reins of government in 2015.

“Today, we are witnessing the most insecure atmosphere in Nigeria as more people have died in Nigeria during the reign of the APC. We have highest unemployment rate in the history of this country as more than 10 million of our youths are unemployed. What the PDP is going to do is to reform our economy, unify our country, and ensure that we have security of lives and property”.

This is not the first time the Turakin Adamawa is seeking to contest for the office of president. Prior to 2018, he had contested against President Buhari during the APC primary elections to select the party’s flag bearer for the 2015 elections.

The former Vice President hopes to be able to secure the presidential ticket for the 2019 elections on the platform of the PDP.
