Ex-Tottenham Legend Dies At 79

Former Tottenham Hotspur legend, Alan Gilzean has died at the age of 79.

He was recently diagnosed with brain tumour before the news of his death made the news headlines.

During his time at Tottenham, Gilzean made nearly 400 appearances and scored 139 goals.

Spurs said in a Sunday statement, “Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our legendary former striker Alan Gilzean.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

During his career as a footballer, he played at Dundee Football Club for seven years, winning the 1961-62 league title.

Dundee FC also paid their respects to him in a statement.

The club statement read in part, “Everyone at Dundee Football Club is devastated to learn that club legend Alan Gilzean passed away this morning after recently being diagnosed with a brain tumour. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Alan’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

The former player of great repute had the Scottish football association celebrating his contribution to football in a statement which read, “We are fortunate that the history of our game is littered with entertainers who captivated supporters. Alan was certainly among them. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”

He was popularly called the ‘King of White Hart Lane.”
