Uruguay Coach Gives Update on Cavani’s Fitness Ahead of Quarter Final

2 Min Read

Uruguay coach, Oscar Tabarez has stated that he is unsure as to whether Paris Saint Germain striker, Edison Cavani would be fit in time to play against France in the World Cup Quarter Final.

The 71-year-old looked on proudly as Cavani struck two goals in either half to send Cristiano and co home from the World cup.

The first was a precise header after a cross from strike partner Luis Suarez while the second was a true thing of beauty. After receiving a pass from Bentacour, the PSG star opened his body up and without even taking a touch curled the ball past Rui Patricio in Portugal’s goal from the edge of the box.

Cavani had to be replaced in the 74th minute and is now a doubt for Friday’s showdown against France.

“He was injured. He felt pain,” Tabarez said at a news conference.

“I don’t know exactly. I haven’t spoken to the medical team. We won’t have a lot of time for recovery.

“After resting, we will see what we have to do. Right now, we’re only worried but we don’t know for sure how grave the injury is.”

It is hoped that the striker can be fit on time as Uruguay will need everyone fit to take on a rampant France who beat Argentina 4-3 in the earlier game.
