Ozil In Angry Exchange With German Fans After Defeat

2 Min Read

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is an emotional player and that was evident after the midfielder threw away his wristband after the final whistle and got into an angry exchange with some German fans after the game.

Germany was shocked to her core by South Korea who defeated the defending champions 2-0 and while they didn’t qualify, the Koreans were delighted with the win.

Ozil who along with Manchester City midfielder, Ilkay Gungodan was a controversial figure before the World Cup due to a photo he took with Turkish President, Rebic Erdogan, drew the ire of a lot of fans after the game who blamed him for the loss and the mercurial Arsenal player was ready to exchange words with them.

He had to be taken away by team officials as the exchange grew more heated.

It was Germany’s worst World Cup showing in 80 years and one which was completely unexpected. The Germans followed a very disappointing defeat to Mexico with an unconvincing win against Sweden which was sparked by a last gasp winner.

Again against South Korea, Germany was ponderous and was unable to find a way past the Koreans despite having a higher shots on goal count.

Germany now follows the recent trend of World Cup winners exiting in the first round after it happened to Spain in 2014, Italy in 2010 and France in 2002.
