A 43-year-old man, Sulyman Musa,  of Oko-Olowo area of  Ilorin, on Thursday  appeared in  an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing 43 cattle valued at N5 million.

The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft, offences that contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused was arrested by the Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on May 21, following a report by one Suleiman Elega.

The prosecutor, Mr Silas Bode, of the Legal Department of NSCDC, told the court that the accused and one Babuga Fulani, now at large, employed to take the cattle out for grazing, criminally conspired and stole the cattle.

He added that with the help of some members of a vigilance men, 18 out of the 43 cattle were recovered, while 25 cattle valued at N3.7 million were sold  by the accused.

Bode prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him investigate the case.

He, however, objected to the bail application of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison pending the determination of the case.

The defence counsel, Yahaya Alajo, prayed the court to grant his client bail on liberal term.

The Magistrate, Funmi Olokoyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 25, for further mention.(NAN)
