A 15-year-old, who allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl, was on Tuesday in Lagos remanded at a Correctional Home on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, said the teenage boy should be kept at the correctional centre, Ikeja,
pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The juvenile, who resides at Ijegun, Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for indecent treatment of a child and defilement.
According to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on May 12 at his parent’s
residence.
He said that the accused defiled his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter.
“The accused called the girl into his room, locked the door, removed her clothes and underwears and defiled her.
“Neighbours noticed blood coming out of the girl’s private parts and when she was questioned, she told them what the
accused did to her.
“The case was reported to the police and the teenager was arrested,” Ayorinde said.
The offences contravened Sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
The case was adjourned until July 9. (NAN)
