I will contest against el-Rufai in 2019 – Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has vowed to contest against Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai in the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.

The Guardian quoted the vocal senator as saying this in an interview over the weekend.

Although both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), el-Rufai and Sani have been at loggerheads over control of the party machinery in the state.

El-Rufai had earlier in the year sued Sani for defamation for describing him as a “drunk, loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The governor had also described Sani and the two other senators from the state – Suleiman Hunkuyi and Danjuma Laah – as “useless”.

Sani was quoted in the interview as condemning the conduct of penultimate weekend’s local government election in the state.

Sani said, “It was very clear that the results of the recently-conducted local council elections in Kaduna State did not reflect what happened.

“Even, there was no ward congress in the state; they just wrote list of names and submitted and this situation has worsened the internal crisis among those who used their money to buy forms.

“Let it be known to Governor El-Rufai that I am contesting against him in 2019 governorship election in the state. The election will not be conducted by the state electoral commission.”
