It is understood that the signing of Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner is edging closer and closer for Arsenal.
The Swiss international and Juventus player is out of contract this season and has already stated that he would be leaving the Old Lady this summer
According to Goal, ‘positive’ talks were held with the north London giants on Friday with the view of signing the 34-year-old on a 2-year contract on a free transfer.
With Hector Bellerin as the only natural Right Back and Koscielny out for 6 months and Per Mertesacker retiring, the Gunners are in need of cover and also someone with an experienced head to teach the younger defenders how to go about their jobs.
Lichtsteiner won seventh successive Serie A titles with Juventus meaning he has in each season since joining the club from Lazio in 2011, been national champion.
He scored 14 goals in 250 appearances for Juventus.
Borussia Dortmund, Monaco and Marseille have also shown an interest in signing him, but Arsenal are hopeful that they will be able to get the deal over the line.
Unai Emery who took over from Arsene Wenger after 22 years has an enormous task ahead of him. His aim will be to take the club back into the Champions league and then set about trying to win the league.
Arsenal’s defence was incredibly poor last season, conceding 51 goals in 38 games, the worst record amongst the top 7 teams with 7th placed Burnley only conceding 39.
