Nigerian Man Lands In Jail For Trafficking Indian Hemp

2 Min Read

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Monday sentenced a 32- years-old man, Mojeed Akeem, to 15 months imprisonment for drug trafficking.

Akeem was sentenced after he pleaded guilty of trafficking in 250 grammes of Cannabis otherwise known as Indian hemp.

The convict was taken by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before Justice Chuka Obiozor on a charge of drug trafficking.

Delivering judgment in the case, Obiozor said he found the accused guilty of the offence as charged.

Consequently, he sentenced him to 15 months in jail, and directed that the prison term should run from the date of his arrest.

After his plea, the NDLEA Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case before the court.

Aernan tendered a written statement of the convict, the bulk of drug exhibit, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form as well as remnants of the restricted substance.

The court accordingly admitted the evidences as exhibits.

The prosecution had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Feb. 10.

Aernan said the convict was arrested at Majiyabge St., Gbagada, Lagos, with 250 grammes of the substance.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The convict had begged the court for mercy, asking for another chance to make amends. (NAN)
