Why Senate May Suspend Omo-Agege, Ndume Again

1 Min Read

The upper chamber of the National Assembly may suspend former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege over the circumstances surrounding the April 18 carting away of the mace.

The purported looming suspension was said to have emanated as a result of a probe into the controversy by an Ad-hoc Committee chaired by Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC – Kebbi South).

After the conclusion of its work, the ad-hoc committee reportedly submitted its report to an Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions panel headed by Sen. Sam Anyanwu two weeks ago.

According to The Sun, the Anyanwu-led panel was tasked with the responsibility of working on the recommendations of the Na’Allah-led adhoc committee and advising the senate appropriately.

Investigations by the ad-hoc committee allegedly indicted Ndume and Omo-Agege and they were said to have been recommended for suspension.

Specifically, Ndume was said to have blocked the effort by the Sergeant-at-Arms to take the mace to safety while the onslaught on the chamber was on.

Other unidentified lawmakers have also reportedly been earmarked for suspension.

The panel will lay its report before the senate this week.
