Prince Harry, or the Duke of Sussex, was before his marriage one of the most eligible bachelors on the planet and you could say he could have a go at just about any girl he wanted to.
He went for 36-year-old actress Meghan Markle and then yesterday happened– one of the greatest weddings ever put together.
But why did Harry go for such a high-profile partner?
The answer can be found in some of his older statements to friends where he was reported to have said that “only somebody who was already in the public eye would be able to understand and handle everything”
Meghan Markle was for six years a major player in one of Hollywood’s biggest shows– Suits, where she played paralegal Rachel Zane and was also the love interest to Patrick Adams in the show.
So if no one else, she would understand the vagarities of being in the spotlight.
According to the Sunday Mirror, a source close to the Prince said; “I don’t think he went out and deliberately looked for a famous actress.
“It makes sense that he has ended up with a celebrity… he feels comfortable being with someone who has already come to terms with the price of fame in the way that his other girlfriends never could.”
His former girlfriends were Chelsy Davy, 32, and Cressida Bonas, 28, both of whom struggled with Harry’s celebrity.
In a 2016 interview, the Prince had said; “If or when I do find a girlfriend, I will do my utmost… to ensure that me and her can get to the point where we’re actually comfortable with each other before the massive invasion that is inevitably going to happen into her privacy.
“The other concern is that even if I talk to a girl, that person is then suddenly my wife, and people go knocking on her door.”
So all in all it makes sense that he went for Markle who even though she claims her experience with celebrity isn’t as widespread as people seem to assume, she still knows enough about it to be more comfortable with someone like Prince Harry.
