Shun ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ – Obaseki Tells Corps Members

2 Min Read
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has advised corps members to shun social vices such as internet fraud (popularly called Yahoo-Yahoo), drug addiction, thuggery, armed robbery, cultism, prostitution, kidnapping and violence.

Obaseki gave the advice on Wednesday in Benin, at the closing ceremony of the 2018 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch `A’ Orientation course.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, urged them to embrace the Federal Government’s `Change Begins with Me` initiative, aimed at restoring national values.

He enjoined them to take their posting in good faith, since it was done in consonance with the NYSC posting policy.

Obaseki urged the corps members to integrate with the people in the rural areas and respect the culture of their host communities, assuring them that his people are friendly and God-fearing.

He charged them to surpass the achievements of their predecessors through execution of developmental and life transforming projects aimed at leaving their host communities better than they met them.

Obaseki assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment in addressing their welfare within the available resources, noting that the construction work at the NYSC permanent orientation camp would be given priority.

Earlier, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mallam Abdulahi Yusuf, while presenting the 2, 137 members, said they were equipped for the challenges of the service year.

Yusuf said that the corps members exhibited a high level of discipline, which culminated in the hitch-free and very successful orientation exercise.

He said that over 75 per cent of the corps members were posted to various educational institutions in the state to impart knowledge in the young ones. (NAN)
