“Mikel Going to Arsenal is bad for Man City” – Guardiola

2 Min Read

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has said that a Mikel Arteta move to become Arsenal’s manager after Arsene Wenger’s exit would be bad for City.

Guardiola described the former Arsenal captain as a great coach who has been instrumental to City’s success this season.

Wenger recently announced his decision to quit as Arsenal manager after 22 years in charge and replacements are already being suggested.

The 36-year-old Arteta is being tipped as a good fit as he understands the club’s philosophy.

His position is further boosted by favourite, Luis Enrique’s demand of a £200 million war chest as a precondition for penning a deal to become the London club’s manager.

Arsenal’s bosses are said to be reluctant to provide such a huge amount, which may prevent the deal from sailing through.

Pundits say this opens the door for an Arteta move and Guardiola does not appear ready to part with his coach.

He said, “My opinion about Mikel is overwhelming. He deserves the best.

“Hopefully we are so comfortable, not just me, working with him. One of the reasons for our success this season is because Mikel is here.

“I know there a lot of names of the next manager after Wenger but the same with Luis Enrique I don’t know the plan for Arsenal.

“Of course Luis Enrique I know well. Mikel deserves the best. They deserve all they want.”
