Student Commits Suicide After Learning He Had Repeated The Year For The Second Time

3 Min Read

Orumah Efemena, a Pharmacy department student of the Delta State University, Abraka, has reportedly poisoned himself after getting a two-semester extension from the school authorities due to his bad results in his final year examination.

On Wednesday the deceased allegedly swallowed two containers of insecticide after his discovery that he would be spending another session in school.

This was the second time the victim would be repeating the class.

Students of the department who wished to remain anonymous verified the horrific incident, stating that the departed student had been going through depression after finding out he would be put on probation for another academic session.

Efemena, was the eldest child in his family, his father queried him on his poor result.

Sources said the deceased was found dead in his room in the hostel where he lived. He was said to have been rushed to the university health centre where he was pronounced dead.

A lecturer of the school confirmed that in the medical report it indicated that the student took substances believed to be sniper.

It added that upon a check on his apartment, two empty containers of the product were discovered, confirming the report of the doctors.

Another student who simply identified herself as Amaka, said, “He was previously in class the day he died. He looked very happy and he exchanged jokes with his course mates. Some of his friends were even with him at home but after they left, he drank sniper and died.”

Amaka added that the deceased had since been buried on Thursday.

Mr. Freeborn Aganbi DELSU’s Public Relations Officer, neither confirmed nor denied the incident. He, however, asked our correspondent to give him some time to provide details.

Aganbi did not call back several hours after he was contacted. Efforts to contact him again also proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, Andrew Aniamaka, said although he read about the incident on the social media, the matter was not reported to the police in Abraka.
