A 25-year-old unemployed, Daniel Azuka, who allegedly stole a N57,000 inverter from one Chima Adiwe, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Azuka, whose address is unknown, is facing a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 4 at No. 24, Ajara Vetho area of Badagry.
He said that the accused stole the equipment from the complainant, who was his friend.
“The accused was supposed to keep the inverter for the complainant, but instead of doing that, he sold it and ran away.
“The complainant eventually traced him to his abode, and was handed over to the police,’’ he said.
Ikem noted that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail for stealing.
Azuka, however, pleaded innocence of the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused a bail of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until May 15 for mention. (NAN)
