The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 35-year-old blacksmith, Danladi Shamuwa, in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen clothes.
The defendant who resides in Makera, Keffi, is facing a count charge of receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Mr Adeyemi Oyeyemi, told the court that Shamuwa committed the offence in February and March.
Oyeyemi said that the defendant received two sets of clothes on two different occasions from one Abdullahi Ladan, a security operative, at Sahad Stores, Central Business District, Abuja.
He said that Ladan gave each of the sets of clothes to Shamuwa, all valued at N240,000.
The prosecutor said that the police had already recovered 14 pieces of the allegedly stolen clothes and N16,000 from Shamuwa.
According to him, the defendant was yet to return 26 pieces of clothes.
The offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code, while the defendant denied committing the offence.
The magistrate, Mr Ahmed Ubangari, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N150, 000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until April 20 for hearing. (NAN)
