2 Min Read

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has sued Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for alleged defamation of character.

Recall that Secondus had been named in the first batch of the lootets’ list announced by the minister on Good Friday, March 30.

According to Mohammed, the party chairman had collected N200 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser under Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), who is accused of misappropriating $2.1 billion meant for procurement of arms to fight Boko Haram.

According to Secondus’s spokesman, Ike Abonyi, in a Friday statement, the national chairman filed the suit at a State High Court, Port Harcourt.

Secondus claimed Mohammed defamed him by the allegation, which has caused embarrassment to him.

The opposition party chairman had in a letter by his lawyer, Mr Emeka Etiaba (SAN), given the minister 48-hour grace to retract his statement, apologise publicly and pay him N1.5 billion in damages, failing which legal action would be taken against him within 72 hours of the date of the letter.

Secondus then instituted the suit after the demands were not met.

In the suit number /PHC/1013/2018, he is claiming that the court awards him the sum of N1.5 billion being damages for humiliation, castigation, vilification attack on his person and integrity as a result of the publication.
