The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 31-year-old security personnel, Aliyu Sani, in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged violent misconduct.
The defendant who is a security man attached to the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Central Business District, Abuja is facing a two-count charge of causing hurt and public nuisance.
The prosecutor, Mr Joshua Ayanna, told the court that Sani committed the offences on March 23 at 11 a.m.
Ayanna said that the defendant, along with his accomplices, still at large, fought one Ismaila Adamu of the same ECN, leaving him injured.
He said that the fight occurred after one Inspector Wilfred Enodiana, a police man attached to the Central Police Station, Abuja, reported that Adamu attacked an unsuspecting man with a knife, injured him and ran away.
According to the prosecutor, Sani should not have fought Adamu, thereby taking laws into his own hands.
The offences contravened Sections 244 and 198 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Jim Zimizu, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until April 25 for hearing. (NAN)
