Construction firms Julius Berger and AIIM are slated to commence work on the 2nd Niger Bridge next month. Minister of Works, Engr. Mike Onolememen made this known recently stating that the project would cost at least N130 billion.
According to the initial contract terms the bridge which has an approach road length of 12.4 kilometres and a bridge component of 1.8 kilometres will be funded as follows, N100 billion from Julius Berger and its partner and N30 billion from the Federal Government with the funds coming from SURE-P.
“The second Niger Bridge has now been fully designed. Now that the figures are known, we are negotiating it downwards on the basis of our own objectives and financial plans, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Finance.
