President Muhammadu Buhari is thrilled by the huge impact the agricultural sector is having as regards providing livelihood for the teeming youth population in Nigeria.
While attending to the Foreign Minister of Tunisia Mr Boukekri Rmilli, on a courtesy visit at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, President Buhari assured that his administration will ensure that agriculture will be a springboard for creating jobs in the country.
This development to be undertaken by the government was highlighted in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu on Tuesday.
“We are trying very hard to provide jobs, for our youths. We are investing heavily in agriculture.”
“Following the uncertainty in the oil market and the huge unemployment situation in the country, we chose to put our fate in agriculture.
” I am glad that our young people are accepting agriculture instead of waiting for white-collar jobs. ”
“They are out there sweating it out in the sun, making a living. Agriculture is the way to go, even when we are realising this almost belatedly,” said President Buhari.
The President commended the strides recorded by Tunisia in the agricultural, health and tourism sector .He further revealed his intentions for Nigeria and Tunisia to work together to improve certain sectors in Nigeria.
The Tunisian Foreign Minister, Mr Rmilli informed the President about his country’s eagerness to improve trade alliances with Nigeria in time to come.
