A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced one Abubakar Mohammed, to seven months imprisonment for stealing two wrappers .
Mohammed, of Magaji village, Airport Road, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of house-breaking and stealing and begged for leniency.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N12,000 fine, adding that the punishment would serve as deterrent to others.
Sadiq also ordered the convicts to pay N38, 000 as compensation to the complainant.
Prosecutor Dalhatu Zannah had told the court that one John Yaro of the same address,reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on March 1.
Zannah said that the convict dishonestly broke into the complainant’s house and stole two wrapper valued at N18, 000, one Panasonic television, value yet unknown and N20,000 cash.
He also said that during police interrogation and investigation, the television was recovered from the convict and all effort made to recover the wrapper and the N20, 000 cash proved abortive.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
