A 16-year-old sales clerk, who allegedly stole his employer’s N800,000, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the court that the accused committed the offences between November 2017 to February 2018 at Kola Market, Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos.
Ogu said accused, who sells at the food stuff shop of the complainant, Mr Faith Ogbona, stole some bags of rice and beans.
“Recently, the complainant discovered that the some bags of rice and beans were missing. He audited his account and discovered that N800,000 was missing.
“The case was reported the case at the police station and the accused was immediately arrested, ” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akanni said the sureties should should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until April 23. (NAN)
