Chief Gani Adams, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III’s choice as Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland is not sitting well with many monarchs in the South West.
The Chairman, Standing Committee of Ekiti Council of Elders, Oladeji Fasuan, disclosed this in a recent interview with Daily Independent.
Fasuan, who is the Asiwaju of Afao-Ekiti, said that there was however no controversy about the Alaafin’s right to install a Kakanfo.
He equally added that the title of Kakanfo is “a fairy tale” since every monarch now controls his territory.
The elder statesman however failed to name the displeased monarchs but called for all and sundry to embrace Adams for the peace and progress of the Yoruba nation.
He said, “I would be more cautious on the matter. It is true that all the Obas and Yoruba leaders are now clapping their hands over the choice of Gani Adams. If you reach the bottom of their heart, not all them would do that or be happy.
“Well, we had him and all we wish him is good luck. But the Yoruba title of Aare Onakakanfo has changed now… Everybody is on his own now. Everybody controls his kingdom. So, the title is more of fairy tales now and in connection with our past.”
Fasuan called on Adams to justify the confidence reposed in him and continue to lift up the Yoruba nation.
