Spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh has said that the bribery allegation brought against the PDP by the All Progressives Congress was false and a blatant lie.

The APC had alleged yesterday that the PDP was bribing lawmakers to the tune of millions of dollars to defect from the APC to the PDP.

PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, dismissed the allegation as a false alarm, saying the bribe allegation was totally untrue.

He described APC as a “sinking party, notorious for lies, deceit and propaganda” not befitting of a reply, but that the ruling party took the pain to react to the allegation because it “is a direct attack on the basic fabric of our democracy.”

The party said that all well meaning Nigerians are worried by the statements and actions of the APC, which are clearly aimed at “destroying our democracy and plunging the nation into chaos.”

PDP stressed that in alleging that lawmakers were being financially induced, the APC seeks to cast doubt in the minds of Nigerians regarding the integrity of duly elected persons, politicians and the entire democratic institution.

A member of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda (APC, Rivers) called for a probe of the allegations. When he raised the issue on the floor, a short argument ensued. The Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stepped in by ordering an investigation by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which is expected to report its findings in 2 weeks.
