Bishop Says Nigerians Should Not Vote For Politicians Above 60 Years Of Age

2 Min Read

Most Revd Paulinus Ezeokafor the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anambra State, has ascribed that Nigerians should not vote for any politician above the age of 60 years in the upcoming 2019 elections.

He describes such politicians as a “burden on the growth and development of the country,” Ezeokafor believes they should have left their political aspirations along with their old age.

In a speech on Sunday in Awka, Anambra State, The bishop pondered over why retired candidates would want to hold the reins of the country.

“I can’t understand why retirees would want to seek political offices. Such people are a burden to growth.

“I urge Nigerians to stop electing such people. 2019 is crucial in our history. We should vote wisely; we should avoid voting for retirees.”

He spoke to Christians and encouraged them to actively participate in the 2019 general election, in the same vein he condemned Christians who complained about government but did not participate in election processes.

He stated that the only way to remove the wrong people from power during elections was to be fully involved, such as by obtaining the permanent voter card and casting one’s vote during elections.

The bishop condemned Christians who sell their votes for a token, adding that such people should be ready to endure the consequences.

He said “Christians were entrusted with the responsibility of taking the lead in positive directions, tasking them to eschew nonchalant attitude.”

The Bishop finally Applauded the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their recent policy to check excessive spending by politicians during elections. The cleric stated that if this stands, it would restore sanity in the electoral process.
