Job Creation Is Not Solely Govt’s Responsibility – Lai Mohammed

1 Min Read

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that job creation for Nigeria’s teeming youth population should not be left to the government alone.

He said well-meaning individuals, nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) and corporate bodies should join hands with the government to provide much-needed jobs for the youth.

The minister made the declaration at the sixth graduation ceremony of 100 male and female entrepreneurs trained by the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

In the same vein, Mohammed said the present administration has created millions of jobs in less than three years of its inception.

He said, “Before this government came into power; the nation had 5 million rice growers but today 12.2 million rice growers have been added.

“That is an extra of more than 7 million jobs in the agric sector alone; and this was collaborated by the Chairman of the Rice Growers Association few days ago.

“Also, 200,000 jobs have been created directly by the N-Power programme while 300,000 jobs would be created in the second phase of the programme, while the school feeding programme has created 61,000 jobs just for schools.”
