Genocide Happens Daily In Nigeria – Senator

2 Min Read
Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani has decried the spate of killings across the country in recent times.

Clashes between herdsmen and farmers in many parts of the country have left many dead and many more wounded in recent months.

Amnesty International said in a press release earlier in the week that more than 168 persons have been killed in herdsmen/farmers clashes in 2018, with nearly 600 deaths recorded in 2017.

In Guma and Logo LGAs of Benue state, 73 persons were killed by suspected herdsmen on New Year’s Day, with similar killings occurring in Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba and other places in recent times.

Also, seven men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were set ablaze in Gboko town in Benue earlier in the week, forcing Governor Samuel Ortom to declare a state of emergency.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle early Saturday morning, Sani condemned the killings.

He said, In some nations genocide happens once, ours appears to be on a daily scale; And with grisly images shared via social media.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu had on Friday warned Nigerians against leading the nation into a genocide like the 1994 Rwandan Genocide through hate speech.
