Nigerian actors converge on Abuja for “Zero Hour’’

6 Min Read

Notable Nigerian actors have assured movie lovers that the film `Zero Hour,’ will be a blockbuster.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the movie with a northern setting is currently being shot in Abuja.

It has notable stars including Richard Mofe Damijo a.k.a RMD, Ene Oloja, of the famous “Cock Crow at Dawn’’ Alex Ekubo, Kannywood diva, Rahama Sadau and others.

Some of the actors, who spoke to NAN on Wednesday, described their roles in the movie with a blend of Nollywood and Kannywood as challenging.

They however added that they were capable of delivering an excellent work.

RMD said he was playing the role of Alhaji Danlami, who is a two-faced individual.

“This guy is a pretentious bastard; that is the only way I can described him. He is two-faced and you have to do more to know who he is.

“The character is from the north, but this is not my first time acting a character from the north in a movie.

“However, I expect more collaboration and films from the industry that will break the large scene,’’ he said.

Also, Alex Ekubo said that he was impressed with the crew and cast in the movie, describing the movie as a wonder project.

Ekubo, who is also a model, stressed that the blend of Nollywood and Kannywood stars “makes the movie a must to watch.’’

“I am playing the part of Zamani in the movie produced by Rogers Ofime; associate producer is Usman Uzi.

“Zamani is a head to an empire; the son of a wealthy man who came back after his father passed on to take over his father’s family business.

“He finds out that things were not going the way they should; with a loving mother on the side and growing love interest, he battled his way through the family drama,’’ Ekubo said.

The tall, light skin model said that this was his first movie that had a northern Nigeria setting.

Similarly, Sadau who played the character of Zainab in the movie said her role was that of a simple and amazing girl.

“Zainab is stuck between taking revenge over the dead of her uncle.

“There a lot more about Zainab in this movie which we are hoping that the audience will welcome and be amazed with everything we put together,’’ Sadau said.

The 24 year-old, Kaduna born actresses said that the production value of Zero Hour was good, adding “that is what actors want and the casts are cooperative.’’

She also said that the role she was playing in the movie was different from the ones she did in previous movies.

“In this role, there is a lot of running and challenging scenes; it is good for me because it is something new and I appreciate it.

“However, I feel very proud that people from the south are coming to the north to shoot and act in movie; we hope of more of such,’’ she said.

Also, Halima Yusuf, who plays the role of General Manger of Galaxy Company, said that this was her first movie.

“I got into it through an online audition for the production of the movie “Zero Hour. I am happy and feel I will go places with my act.’’

Oloja who also featured in “Behind the Cloud’’, decades ago said her role in Zero Hour was Hauwa, mother to Zamani.

Oloja, who is based in the U.S., said that she played Hauwa, a widow in the movie whose husband owned a big company.

“This is my very first Nollywood movie ever since `Cock Crow at Dawn’ and `Behind the Cloud.’

“However, the Nigeria movie industry has grown and made tremendous success; working with film director, Robert Peters was encouraging,” she said.
Oloja who works as a `Readiness Instructor’ in the U.S., said that content was key to the success of a movie.

The director of the movie, Robert Peters who directed “30 Days in Atlanta’’, “A Trip to Jamaica’’ “When One Door Closes’’ and others said “Zero hour’’ which is a working title was a political thriller.

The Kaduna born director said that he was versatile in directing movies, adding that when released, the movie will give viewers the best of acts from Nollywood and Kannywood.

NAN reports that the producer, Rogers Ofime is a Nigerian born Canadian based film maker and television producer.

He is best known for producing notable series, `Tinsel.’ (NAN)
