Ahead of the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere should be fit to play.
Arteta picked up a knock during the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last Sunday, but will have recovered in time to head to Anfield.
Wilshere meanwhile has not featured for the Gunners since the 4-0 FA Cup victory over Coventry City on January 24.
The England international picked up an ankle problem in that game, but Wenger is confident that the 22-year-old will be ready to take on the Reds.
The match on Merseyside is the first in a tough group of fixtures for Wenger’s side in February, with Manchester United in the league, Bayern Munich in the Champions League and then Liverpool again in the FA Cup.
Many critics have said that this period will make or break the north London club’s season, as they currently top the English top tier with 55 points from 24 matches.
With both Aaron Ramsey and new midfield signing Kim Kallstrom out injured for around six weeks, options in the middle of the park were beginning to look sparse.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain filled in at the weekend and excelled, scoring both goals in the triumph over Palace, but having both Arteta and Wilshere available will be vital – especially as Mathieu Flamini is also absent due to suspension.
