‘Bayelsa Won’t Allow Cattle Colonies’

1 Min Read
Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Government has debunked claims in some quarters that it had ceded land from the state-owned Bayelsa Palm Plantation for use by herdsmen for cattle grazing.

The Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Dodie Week, said the rumour was untrue, insisting that there was no space in the state for any cattle colony.

Week, who briefed the press at the Cultural Centre, Yenagoa on Wednesday said that the state government was using the plantation for its integrated cattle ranch programme.

“The Bayelsa State ranch is owned by the state government. Cattle rearers were only asked to use the ranch instead of roaming the city of Yenagoa and other towns with their cattle. Anyone who wants to engage in cattle grazing should take it elsewhere not here,” Vanguard quoted him as saying.
