In Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, irate youths attacked security operatives in the Wadatta area, a suburb of the capital.
The youths started gathering at around 8.00pm on Sunday, and security operatives were alerted promptly. The reason for their gathering is unsure but rumour says the youth are on a mission to avenge a fallen comrade.
Tiv and Hausa youths had caused a riot on Saturday leading to several injuries.
An eyewitness in the area state that “gunshot was still being heard by 9.00pm.
Asp Moses Yamu the Police Public Relations officer, who verified the report stated: “We learnt that some cult members were gathering at Wadatta and we have drafted security men to the area.”
Soldiers have been posted in the Wadatta area following the attack to dispel the possibility of any riots occurring.
