A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja on Friday remanded a 50-year-old business woman, Nwakwo Rose  in police custody for allegedly pouring hot oil on her neighbour.

Rose, of Kado Village Abuja was arraigned on a count charge of causing grievous hurt.

The Judge, Mr Sadiq Abubakar, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody until the next adjourned date on Jan. 25.

The prosecutor, Mr. Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that the matter was lodged at the Life Camp Police Station by Timothy Nwakpa and Isaac David, both of Kado Village, Abuja on Jan 9.

Zannah said that on the same date, at about 2 p.m, Rose was alleged to have attacked the complainants while they were sitting beside a shop at Kado Village market where they were transacting their business.

He said without provocation, the defendant intentionally and violently brought out groundnut oil from the fire and poured it on the complainants.

The prosecutor explained that as a result of the hot oil, the complainants sustained grievous burns all over their bodies and were rushed to Gwarimpa Hospital.

He said the complainants raised alarm and Rose was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.

Zannah said that during police interrogation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of her action.

The prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open a case against Rose, as he had other criminal matters filed against her.

According to him, the matter is still under investigations as the offence contravenes Section 245 of the Penal Code.

In her submission, Rose denied committing the offence leveled against her. (NAN)
