1 Min Read

Nollywood legend, Pete Edochie has advised filmmakers in the country to focus on epic stories to regain international attention.

He said the international community was interested in epic films from Nigeria in order to learn about the culture of the land, saying he refrains from movies roles nowadays because less epic stories were being told.

In an interview with Channels, he added that as a custodian of Nigerian culture he would rather act in epic and cultural movies than in contemporary movies.

He said, “Some of us who are custodians of our culture and want to ensure that we market our culture undiluted don’t feature as regularly as we should anymore.

“What the White man wants to see about you is epic so he can learn. He’s not going to fall in love and kiss and swim.”

Since shooting into stardom  in the ’80s as Okonkwo in the television adaption of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Edochie has gone on to become one of the most revered actors in  the Nigerian film industry,
