A Nigerien man stabbed two Danish journalists in a market in Gabon, in a retaliatory attack against the U.S shouting “Allahu Akbar” Arabic for “God is great.”
The Gabon defence minister, Etienne Kabinda Makaga made the statement on Saturday live on Gabonese television, that the assailant, a 53-year-old man from Niger “acted in retaliation for U.S. attacks against Muslims and America’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”
The attack has not yet been classified as an act of terrorism. However
police in Gabon rounded up and arrested more than a dozen suspects on Sunday.
The detainees all men were mostly traders and sellers from West Africa who work in the market, the French news agency AFP reported.
The has been shut down since the attack and has not reopened yet according to AFP.
