Civil Servants urge NASS not to scrap housing loans board

2 Min Read

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has advised the National Assembly not to scrap the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB).

The President of ASCSN, Bobboi Baigama and the Secretary-General, Alade Lawal gave the advice in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

The statement said that the Bill, which has gone through second reading in the House of Representatives, if passed into law, would inflict pain and sorrow on public servants.

It said that the 1974 degree that established the Board charged it with four mandates of providing loan facilities for public servants.

“The board is charged with building residential houses in Nigeria for use of the applicant or his family and to purchase a parcel of land in Nigeria in which such residential house is to be built,

“ It is also meant to purchase a residential house in Nigeria for use of the applicant or his family; and for improving or extending a residential house owned by the applicant and to which he has a valid and good title acceptable to the Board,” it said.

The statement said that the Board has, since its inception granted loan facilities to about 22,989 public officers to buy land, build or purchase houses and renovate same.
