Budget Proposal: Expert lauds FG’s economic revival, power generation plans

An ecologist, Mr Richard Inyamkume, has commended the Federal Government for demonstrating its commitment toward the revival of the nation’s economy.

Inyamkume told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that some of the projects highlighted in the 2018 budget proposal were indicators for “a better and brighter tomorrow’’.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has clearly demonstrated the commitment of his administration to bringing Nigeria out of economic recession, while ensuring the security of our nation,’’ he said.

Inyamkume particularly commended the Federal Government for its decision to initiate purposeful green energy initiatives.

“The president was able to carefully articulate some development initiatives that would support the institution of the Green Alternative Energy Sources; this is quite commendable.

“President Buhari pointed out that his administration has already signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with 14 solar companies,’’ he said.

Inyamkume said that this would translate into positive outcomes that would promote clean energy production and usage in the country.

“In fact, President Buhari brought to our knowledge that the 10 MW Wind Farm in Katsina State, a project which was abandoned since 2012, would be completed.

“He also said that the government has approved the concession of six small hydro-electric power plants with a total capacity of 50 MW.

“This is cheery news for those who understand the value of such projects in relation to climate change and environmental safety,’’ he said.

Besides, Inyamkume commended the Buhari-administration for its plans to launch the first African Sovereign Green Bond in December 2017.

He said the bond would open doors of solution for the myriad energy challenges facing the country, particularly for citizens facing energy challenges in the hinterlands.

He urged Nigerians to support the initiatives by facilitating the government’s efforts to implement the 2018 budget. (NAN)
