South East Governors, express concern over Biafra agitation

Udom Emmanuel

Governor Emmanuel Udom, the Chairman of the South-East and South-South Governors Forum, has expressed the worries of the eastern Governors over the level of agitations in the region.

Speaking at the Imo  State House, the Governor said that the forum is concerned about the tussle by the  Indigenous People of Biafra over the marginalization for a sovereign republic in the South-East region.

He also disagreed with any group that has declared any place in the country, as a “no go area”, stating that such acts will endanger the lives of citizens of the country.

He briefly said: “As we begin this deliberation, I urge our Governors to consider the challenges that confront our people.

“This forum is concerned with the cacophony of voices that are calling for self-determination and we are worried. We are also concerned with the issues of justice, fairness and equity in our region.”

Some of the Governors present at the meeting were; Abia state’s Okezuo Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor Rochas Okorocha, Governor Nyesom Wike, Bennedict Ayade, Seriaki Dickson, Enugu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Deputy governor of Anambra state.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, is the most recent group in agitation, led by Nnamdi Kanu, a British born Nigerian, who is in a protracted tussle with the Nigerian Government, seeking for the secession of a Biafran state.

However, the Federal High Court in Abuja had granted the ex parte motion filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), proscribing IPOB and it’s activities.
