LG spends N200 million on capital projects

1 Min Read

Suleja Local Government Council in Niger says it has spent N200 million on capital projects toward improving the living standard of the people.

Its Chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Maje, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Suleja, listed the projects to include new Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), medical equipment, classroom blocks and drainage.

According to him, the new PHCs and the classrooms have been completed and put to use.

He said that assorted fertilisers, worth N3.5 million, were procured and distributed to farmers for free, while modern seeds were also introduced to many areas.

“We have invested so much in the agriculture sector; our goal is to encourage massive participation of youths in farming activities,” he said.

Maje said that N3.5 million was sunk into purchasing English language, Mathematics and science text books, and challenged rural communities to take advantage of government’s renewed interest in education to enroll their children in schools.

He said that N2.5 million was used to provide chairs and tables to end the ugly era where primary school pupils received classes on bare floors
