FERMA rehabilitating over 100 roads nationwide – Official

2 Min Read

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), says it is rehabilitating over 100 ongoing road contracts nationwide to ease movement of motorists.

FERMA’s Head of Communication, Mrs Maryam Sanusi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

She listed some of the ongoing road rehabilitation projects to include Okene-Kabba road in Kogi, Mokwa-New Bussa in Niger and Birnin Gwari-Tegina-Makera -Mokwa -Jebba road in Kwara and Niger states.

The official added that other roads include the general maintenance of Kano-Dambatta road linking Kano and Jigawa states among others.

Sanusi said that the agency was intervening on all stretches of federal roads within its scope, adding that funds had been made available for the projects.

“Our 2016 contracts are still ongoing and they are all on roads; our direct labour works is still being carried out across federal roads in the country’’, she said.

The agency’s spokesman explained that most federal roads have outlived their life span and were being degraded daily by overloaded articulated vehicles.

She however said that FERMA has been tackling the failures that emanate on the roads within its financial capacity and in accordance with its short and long term strategies.

“The agency is still resolute and absolutely committed to ensuring that standards are not compromised through her various programmes, supervision, quality control assurance, monitoring, surveillance systems, productivity and greater output’’
