Benzema extends Madrid contract to 2021

2 Min Read

French Striker Karim Benzema has put down his signature to extend his Madrid contract by 4 years.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Madrid said: “Real Madrid and Benzema have agreed to extend the contract of the player, who will remain tied to the club until June 30, 2021.”

Benzema has won 14 trophies, including three Champions League and two La Liga titles, since joining Real from Lyon as one of Europe’s most promising strikers in 2009.

He is currently battling a hamstring injuring which is expected to keep him out of action for another 4 weeks.

He currently holds a tally of 181 goals, with a goal per 90 minutes ratio of nearly 0.5. This is the eighth best record in the club’s history.

Benzema has consistently shone in the Champion’s League as his record of 51 goals in the competition is only bettered by Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Raul and Ruud van Nistelrooy, excluding the qualifying rounds.

Zidane once said “For me, he’s one of the best strikers in the world.”

Coach Zinedine Zidane’s renewal is also imminent after the Frenchman repeated on Tuesday that his deal has expired.

Over the past week, Vice-captain Marcelo, Isco and Dani Carvajal all extended their contracts by 5 years following inspiring performances last season.

In July, Real Madrid won the Champion’s League for the second consecutive year, making them the first team in history to defend the title successfully.
