ASUU Suspends Strike, Directs Members to Resume Work

1 Min Read

After 5 long weeks, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended their strike action and directed members to get back to work.

This comes from the ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi who speaking last night said that after a long meeting with representatives from the Federal Government, they decided to conditionally suspend the strike in view of the timeline of October for the implementation of the signed agreement with the government.

He stressed that the suspension is a conditional one and should the Government fail to hold up their end of the bargain, strike actions will become the norm, but that there is a definite timeline for the implementation of the agreements reached during negotiation.

Some of the things agreed on are funding for revitalisation of public universities and the issue of Earned Academic Allowances, the issue of University Staff Schools and the implementation of the judgment of the National Industrial Court, National Universities Pension Management Company and guidelines for pension matters for professors.
