Bullion Van Loaded With Money Catches Fire In Lagos

2 Min Read

A bullion van reported to be loaded with money of unspecified denominations and totaling an unspecified amount was reported to have been razed by fire.

The money transportation vehicle was reported to have gone up in flames yesterday in the Ojota area of Lagos.

The van was however burnt to crisp after it was gathered that it lacked fire extinguisher.

The incident happened under the Ojota bridge as the van moved towards toll gate to disburse its content to some banks in the area.

The exact cause of the fire is yet unknown.

An eyewitness identified as Mrs Moji Maitani, told journalists:

“I was driving home when all of a sudden the vehicle directly in front of me veered to another lane. I quickly applied the break to avoid what the motorist attempted to dodge, only to discover that a vehicle was on fire.

“On further observation, it was discovered to be a bullion van. Its occupants rushed out and were flagging other motorists to demand for fire extinguisher. But I could not stop, in order not to be trapped in any disaster.”

Another witness who pleaded anonymity said the money contained in the van was completely burnt as escorts could not make it near the hot burning van.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Emergency, LASEMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Tiamiyu Adesina, also confirmed the incident adding that the officials of Lagos State Fire Service arrived the scene to put out the fire.
