The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has reportedly racked up a bill of €26,000 for make-up in his first 100 days in office.

The French president who is only 39 has offered a fresh point of view for his critics after the details of his spending since assuming office surfaced.

The bill which surfaced revealed that the French President spent the amount on hiring a freelance make-up artist for work.

Le Point Magazine while confirming the authenticity of the bill revealed that the presidency told AFP about the make-up spending.

The revelation brings to recall the embarrassing moment faced by former president Francois Hollande, who was balding and in turn employed a private hairdresser on a pre-tax monthly salary of nearly €10,000 ($11,800).

In Francois Hollande’s case, opponents seized the opportunity to throw jabs at him.

A far right strategist, Florian Philippot, in reaction to the bill spent on make-up by the new president took to her Twitter page to write: “While France is slaving away, Macron is spreading (the equivalent of) 23 times the minimum wage on his face.”

Another source within the presiency told BFM television that future costs on make-up would be “significantly reduced”.

The source claimed both Hollande and former right-wing president Nicolas Sarkozy spent more on make-up.
