2 Min Read

The Arewa Youth Coalition has said it withdrew the quit notice it issued to Igbos living in the North after a series of discussions with high profile government officials.

The AYC which is part of a larger coalition of Northern groups said they also walked back on their expulsion order not because of fear, but because there were a people of culture who respect national values, leaders and elders.

Recall we reported how the leaders of the group met with the Northern Governors Forum led by Mallam Ibrahim Shettima.

In a statement to the press on the withdrawal notice, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Suleiman of the Northern Emancipation Network said, “Most significance was our correspondence with the then Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and most recently our interface with the Presidency through the Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu.

“As a consequence of these vigorous engagements and as a cultured people with a tradition of respect for our nation’s values, leaders and elders, we are today pleased to announce the immediate suspension of the relocation clause otherwise referred to as the quit notice from the Kaduna Declaration.”

The statement which was signed by 14 of the Arewa groups also called on the Federal Government to arrest Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB).

As part of the grievances they want settled, the Arewa youth said the Senate leadership should call on the Senators that stood surety for Kanu to be released on bail to rescind their surety or be suspended accordingly.
