2 Min Read

The rainy season is a period usually dreaded by tons of Lagosians both on the Island and mainland regions alike, due to the occurrence of large scale flooding of areas.

Lagos state is well known to be a coastal city with creeks and swamps occupying large portions of the strip of land that is the states physical geographical region.

This, coupled with some other attendant factors such as poor building and refuse disposal have already exacerbated what is the drainage problem that the state has been facing since time immemorial.

A typical example resides in the recent flood cases that have hit areas within Lagos in the past weeks due to either torrential or heavy rainfall.

One of such places that are often hardest hit is the Lekki regions with floods being ridiculously high — to shoulder height in extreme cases.

However, this piece is concentrating on a particular community at Ibeju lekki–a community which may be wiped out by the flooding disaster if care is not taken.

This community; the Labora Palms Bay Estate is situated behind Abijo GRA, Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Lagos State.

The Labora palms bay estate road is a major road that connect with monastery road toward shoprite sangotedo if the government can help and build the road and canal to channel the water appropriately.

Being one of the hardest hit by the floods, the community has been living in fear of the unknown as flood comes with each torrent of rainfall.

It was also reported that community leaders have reached out to the Ministry of Environment and Town Planning but nothing has been done.

Below is the documentary conducted by the community leaders.
